The Fertility Monitor

Hurry, grap a fertility monitor! This gadget will remove the tedium of manually tracking and predicting your ovulation!

Fertility monitors are battery-operated, palm-size electronic appliances or micro-computers. They provide high-tech solutions to ovulation prediction and take all of the guesswork out of it.

If you are driven to the corner by the drudgery of taking your basal body temperature every morning, this is your answer!

This fertility monitoring device also remove any doubts over your subjective interpretations of the urine test sticks from your OPK. Simply sit back and rely on its more accurate electronic sensoring system to objectively interpret your readings for you!

All these fertility or ovulation monitors function about the same ways. They measure and analyse your hormonal changes through a sample of your input data (using something that is discharged from your body) and display objective readings on their screens by the push of a button. Then with their computing capabilities, they can alert you to your fertile days from their storage of data. They can be connected to your personal computer where you can transfer your data to for further analysis and charting.

Different types of fertility monitors exist in the market using different discharges from your body to measure your hormonal changes. They are:

  • The Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor - measures your hormonal changes by testing your urine.

  • The Ovacue - measures your hormonal changes by testing your saliva.

  • The Ov-Watch - measures your hormonal changes by testing your sweat.

  • First Response - measures your hormonal changes by testing your basal body temperature. This is not as user friendly as the other ovulation monitors as you must measure your basal body temperature at the same time every morning before you get out of bed, and you must have at least 5 hours of sleep prior to that to ensure accurate reading.

Though fertility monitors are highly accurate in ovulation prediction, your test results can be compromised by certain factors.

For example, if you just have had a recent pregnancy, or stopped breast feeding not too long ago, or have just discontinued using hormonal contraceptions, you should wait for 2 to 3 cycles before resuming testing. This is to give your body sufficient time to restore its normal hormonal functions.

Other circumstances that could affect your test results are; if you're using some fertility drugs, having some liver or kidney problems, or suffering from polycystic ovarian syndrome.

If you love further technology you can get these fertility charting softwares to help you organise, generate and print various fertility charts that'll impress your doctor. You don't have to use your pencil and ruler to mark and connect dots anymore! Everything is automated.

If you have doubts, consult your doctor before using a fertility monitor, especially if you have some prior medical conditions or is now taking certain medications that you suspect might interfere with the test results.
