Menstrual Cycle Hormones to Get Yourself Pregnant

Four menstrual cycle hormones in your body initiate and control your menstrual cycle.

Variations and disruptions in these hormones will upset your menstrual cycle, and thus, your chances of getting

pregnant.

It is a good thing to familiarize yourself with the functions of these hormones so that you'll understand how

they could affect your pregnancy later on.

The four hormones are:

  • FSH – Follicle Stimulating Hormone

  • LH – Luteinising Hormone

  • Estrogens

  • Progesterone
FSH stimulates the growth of follicles in your ovaries and tells them to start maturing eggs in preparation for

ovulation.

LD also helps in stimulating follicle growth in your ovaries to trigger ovulation. Its other important function

is to cause your ovaries to secrete estrogens.

Estrogens stimulate the thickening of your uterus lining in order to receive a fertilized egg.

Progesterone is produced when ovulation occurs. The follicle in the ovary that contained the released egg

develops into a temporary endocrine gland, called the ‘corpus luteum’, which produces progesterone.

Progesterone helps your body create and maintain the lining of the uterus and signals to your body to stop

producing eggs for that cycle.

These four hormones work harmoniously together in the four phases of your menstrual cycle.
